Enrolling - Student Previously Transferred Out From A School in District, Now Coming Back to a Different School in District
Scenario
Let's say a Johnnie attended IAA and was transferred out during a prior school year. She now has a status of Transferred Out with an exit date of a prior year.
Now Johnnie is coming back but will be in 6th grade at HMS instead of IAA. Here's what we do with this one:
- Open the student's record and select IAA,
- Go to Functions and select Transfer to Another School. Select the new school (in this case Hunt.)
- Change to the new school. Look at the Transfer Info screen and see that her school is now Hunt but she still has a Transferred Out status. Make sure you have the new school selected. Go to Functions and select Re-Enroll in School.
- Date of Re-enrollment is either the first day of school or the first date that she is coming to school.
- Select an Entry Code that is appropriate - most often "Transfer from Public School."
- Select a Full Time Equivalency of "Full time."
- Select the correct Grade level
- Select Burlington School District as the District of Residence.
- Select No from Restore School Enrollments. Click Submit.
- Go back to the Transfer Info page. You will see her current enrollment is correct. However she has a previous enrollment at IAA for the same time period. See Screen Shot 3.
- Select the "bad" previous enrollment. Click Delete. See Screen Shot 4.
You now have a clean enrollment for the right school, grade, and dates.
Search for Siblings
It's important to link siblings in PowerSchool for several reasons, one being there are some benefits that apply to all siblings, such as qualifying for direct certification (DC) for free lunches.
- Click on the Family link in the student record. you may see siblings already linked.
- To check for siblings, click the Search for Additional Family Members at the bottom of the page.
- You can enter values in any of the fields, and/or you can press Submit when the checkbox in front of "Include Student's Last Name in Search" is checked.
- If there are matches, click the Related checkbox.
- If any sibling is directly certified for free lunch, all siblings qualify so we want to check if all siblings have the DC checkbox selected on the Special Services page. If not, check it and enter the date in the "Date DC Last Updated" field.
- In the Service Notes add a note of the change you made, such as "Date, initials, updated DC to Yes because another sibling qualified."
